STUDENT LIFE AND CLUBS

Clubs & Programs

At IES we strive to provide mutiple opportunities for the enrichment of our students. Through the efforts of teachers and volunteers, IES has become not only a place for your child to learn the importance of core education, but to also experience after school clubs and activities.

Music

At IES the students receive music instruction from Rita Whitaker Haun, Music Specialist. During their time with Ms. Haun activities include: singing/speaking, reading/writing, listening, playing instruments, and moving. The WHOLE CHILD is involved and engaged in lessons that often correlate with the classroom curriculum. Each grade level presents a performance each year showcasing the skills included in the music curriculum.

Visual Arts

At IES the Visual Arts curriculum is fulfilled with the “Meet the Masters” art program. A team of experienced art teachers, lead by a credentialed elementary teacher, work on the development of all lessons.  When fine-tuned, the lessons are then classroom tested in the corresponding grade levels. At IES a group of volunteers present the lessons to each class and guide the students to create their own master inspired piece of art. The students’ art work is celebrated with the Annual MTM Art Show.

                                         Science & Outdoor Education

The science lab at Incline Elementary School is bursting with activity, excitement                                                                         and experimentation. From the moment you walk into the lab, you will be                                                                                   pleasantly surprised by the degree of enthusiasm emanating from the students.                                                                         Fourth graders   peer at diatoms through microscopes with focused attention, fifth                                                                   graders curiously test the affects of temperature on air molecules, and second                                                                           graders balance paper crawdads on the tips of their fingers.

The scientific process is thriving at Incline Elementary School thanks to a donation from the IES PTA and a grant from the Parasol Foundation. These generous allocations allowed IES to create a Science and Outdoor Education Program to enrich the current curriculum and implement outdoor education. The program boasts a full time coordinator, science lab, funding for field trips, assemblies and other school-wide events.

Literacy Program

The Literacy Program at Incline Elementary School has been

working to aid students struggling with reading, reading                                                                 comprehension, and writing. As part of this program,

small groups from each grade are tutored daily. In addition

small groups are also tutored in the Barton Reading & Spelling

System. Originally developed for children with Dyslexia,

but effective in reading instruction across the board, The Barton System is a scientific

research based program that builds upon a strong foundation of phonemic awareness. In addition to tutoring, the literacy program started and continues to maintain the Million Word Challenge, which is a school-wide contest that encourages students to read by rewarding them as they read books and complete comprehension tests. Reading and writing are integral pieces of a good education, but much more than that they are enjoyable. The literacy program strives to not only help children improve their reading abilities, but to help them develop a passion and excitement for reading and writing!
